Goliath Visual
Space is pleased to present memorabilia, site-specific installation works
by Margaret Cogswell, Toyoko Katsumata and Mitsunori Kurashige, and painting
by Arimichi Iwasawa.
Margaret Cogswell and Toyoko Katsumata's works bring you to the door of
your unconscious memory bank through installations which have subtly employed
and altered the physical surroundings of an environment. Physically entering
their works (and/or worlds) triggers a virtual journey into one's self.
Margaret Cogwell's installation sIt-ingz / sIt-ingz uses video projections,
plumbing, heating, and electrical fixtures to lead the viewer on a quest
for sIt- ingz. White grease, metal sheets, and large photographs are used
by Toyoko Katusumata so convincingly that it awakens instinctual senses
and evokes a sense of touch through the eyes.
Arimichi Iwasawa and Mitsunori Kurashige bring the viewer into the work
by more optical, pictorial means. Arimichi Iwasawa uses repeats shapes
in numerous ways that connect like a DNA thread to the viewer's past,
present and future. After much investigation Iwasawa came across the shape
of a newborn baby, which formed the base stamp that is woven throughout
his paintings. In the process of exploring the nature of a square or of
a surface, Mitsunori Kurashige uses neon and intense lights to the extent
that the viewer is torn between viewing the piece or the environment the
work creates which turns into another piece.
Goliath invites you to see an event that is worth seeing, experiencing,
and remembering.
